JOB
The primary role of the Financial Analyst is to provide accounting, reporting and administrative support for the Finance Office as well as assist with the accurate and timely reporting and compliance with grant policies and procedures. The position also provides month-end and year-end audit support including processing of journal entries and preparation of account analyses. Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities: A. Administrative/Technical/Service General month-end and year-end audit support including processing of journal entries and preparation of account analyses. Review transactions and ensure proper application of policies and procedures. Responsible for extracting data from institution’s database, verifying data for accuracy, analyzing data, and reporting of institutional data to management and external constituents.Ensure accurate and timely accounting, reporting and compliance with grant policies and procedures, as well as compliance with federal grant rules and regulations and award terms.Ensure proper use of grant funds according to award documents and grant budgets, ensuring proper allocation and reporting of funds.Monitor grants to ensure compliance with federal rules and regulations, award terms and College policies for expenditures.Coordinate with the Budget, Human Resources and Payroll offices to ensure timely and accurate salary allocations. In addition, accurate and timely notification to Payroll and Human Resources regarding grant salary allocations.Work closely with program and project managers to manage and oversee budget and technical matters.Coordinate special projects from start to finish including surveys, data collection, analysis and reporting of results to management. Assist in developing and updating departmental policies and procedures.Keep abreast of new technologies to ensure the efficiency of the Finance Office. Perform other duties/projects as assigned. B. OrganizationalManages time and other resources to meet established short and long-term goals within the agreed upon time frames.Demonstrates flexibility in the acceptance and completion of work assignments. Participates in the department’s performance improvement activities. Maintains confidentiality in the management of information.Demonstrate written, verbal and interpersonal ability to deal with all levels of the University community, both external and internal, including but not limited to, faculty, staff, supervisors, peers and subordinates as needed to do the job and resolve difficult situations.Communicates and/or implements innovative ideas to proactively solve problems and develop the department/University.Demonstrates a willingness to develop the technical and technological expertise required for the job.Demonstrates respect for others inclusiveness that fosters cooperation and teamwork.Is punctual and maintains a satisfactory attendance record. Is appropriately attired for the office. Collaborates and cooperates with other employees and departments.Identifies and initiates actions independently to support the vision, mission and objectives of the University. Takes initiative in troubleshooting and completing tasks to resolve or avoid problems. C. Educational/Professional DevelopmentIdentifies learning strengths and needs and utilizes learning resources.Seeks to learn and continuously develop self. Uses resources wisely and effectively. D. Communication/Relationships Demonstrates a professional, courteous, and respectful attitude in dealing with clients, staff and other members of the Mercy University community.Answers telephones and emails in an appropriate, professional manner, and resolves problems within a reasonable timeframe. E. Policies and Procedures ComplianceComplies with policies and procedures of the Department and the University including the University's Code of Conduct.Identifies and reports gaps in policies and procedures to management. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Education Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field from an accredited four-year institution Minimum two years of relevant experience analyzing and interpreting data. Required Skills & Experience: Minimum two years of relevant experience analyzing and interpreting data.Ability to analyze situations and exercise judgement in the interpretation, application, and communication of policies.Detail orientation; close attention to detail and accuracy of data.Ability to effectively manage multiple projects/deadlines a must.Strong spreadsheet skills including advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal, written, and oral communication, problem-solving, organizational, and presentation skills.Strong customer service orientation.Ability to work independently and great levels of responsibility and confidentiality required.Ability to travel between campus locations required. Physical/Other Requirements: Ability to travel between campus locations required. Must be able to meet all general health requirements for the position as per University policies.Must be able to push, pull, move or lift up to 50 lbs. Compensation offered will be commensurate with the educational background and work experience of the individual. Mercy University promotes a community campus environment. As a result, employment is limited to the following states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania. Applicants outside of those states or the USA will be required to relocate. Relocation assistance may be provided for eligible moves.
